Stand By Me

Dad first showed me the movie Stand By Me when I was in high school. I’m a sucker for coming-of-age movies and this one was no exception.  The pie scene? Classic. Kiefer before he became Jack Bauer? Crazy. The sunset of innocence? It just gave you all sorts of feels.

But what I loved most about watching this movie was my dad’s own narration to it. Fun childhood stories from his woodland adventures growing up in Maryland. He had a crew like Gordie, and even a bully like Kiefer.

I even made Dad a mix CD of the Ben E. King song and other oldies he could blast in his ‘Vette whenever he pleases. And he does so a lot.

Years later we would dance to “Stand By Me” together at my wedding.
